Putting a gas engine on my bike

the gas tank would not be hard. you could slap almost any old motorcycle tank on there, and run a fuel line to the carb.

yeah it probably has the fuel line, just no tank I know I can put one of those on. But do I need a kill switch a revlimiter or a s.a.m. for the engine to run? And if I mount the engine off to the right side, next to the tire do you think that will be ok? I know it might be a little hard to balance but if its powered I dont think I will have a problem balancing it as long as it doesn't weigh too much.

Dude, S.A.M. Stands for Spark Advance Module, not all engines use them, but some are in combination with the rev-limiter. You don't need a S.A.M. if the particular engine has a C.D.I. Stands for Capasiter Discharge Ignition. The problem with the engine your looking at on EBAY is that ALL the electronics are not there, it's all still on the bike frame. If you can get the complete wireing harness, then it be worth fooling with, but it aint there, save your money. Look for a wrecked moped that still runs, that way you know you got all you need.

Yeah well I know you guys have people always throwing away mopeds and dirt bikes where you live, but people don't here. It's not that easy for me to just get an old moped or something that uses an engine. We don't even have a junkyard nearby. The only option I have is buying an engine online or getting one out of an old chainsaw or something. I think I am just going to have to find an engine from a chainsaw. That seems to be the only thing that is powerful enough and someone said it already has a clutch.

I just found this engine on ebay. It is nearby and not that much money. The only problem is it might be to big or heavy.

The Tecumseh is better for you then a chainsaw engine, true the saw has it's own clutch allready, but the sprocket is wrong "totaly different". clutchs rite here

Plus you can mount it closer to the center of the frame correcting the balance, and the chain will work out better.

yeah, or use a torque converter.

Actually I still can't mount it to the middle because the sprocket would still be on the left. I will just keep looking for an engine for the right price and once I find one I will worry about how to mount it. I know it will work some way so there is no point in stressing about how I will mount it or anything until I actually have it. But if anyone sees or has an engine that thinks would be good please let me know.

get a little used 50 cc off an old Honda minibike. the ones I'm thinking of are called ST's or KO's, and have a stamped steel frame. the engine is air cooled.

Thats nice I was thinking about making a mini bike instead. It may be easier to just start off with a new frame. I'm getting a 5hp tecumseh engine.
