Here is my first spud gun.
It is made of 3 inch abs reduced down to 1.5 abs.
I see alot of pvc spud guns but trust me I work with abs and pvc everyday.I yet have seen abs break. If you do use pvc make sure its shedule 80 as shed 40 is too brittle.[/img]
I agree with noname, sch 40 is fine, the only problem is its more likely to go KABOOM if you drop it while pressurised....But then sch 80 shrapnel probably hurts more than sch 40..... but this is a combustion so it won't go off if you drop it.
Dude, any shrapnel is going to hurt like hell anyway, Sch 40 or 80. Just don't drop it. Plus, a normal combustion can't produce enough pressure to blow the PVC apart.
The are dwv fittings what I have done though is used 3" couplings and glued them togerther at the combustion chamber, that way everything is double walled making it stronger. on the back i used a 3by 2 reducer and a 2"fitting clean out.Lose less propane filling and easier to use than a 3 in ch.The handle on the 3 by 1.5 has been filled to stop any combustion from entering it protecting the trigger.
As for pvc I use it when plumbing ground services and when i just moving pipe around It tends to break. Abs I can through around the job site with no worries.
Shed 80 is exspensive but is found at most irrigation shops.
Will add more pics soon.
Thanks for the comps
