easy terms. you start with the piston in the chamber... it moves back which makes the chamber larger (chamber + size of piston)

You talking to me? Anyway it sounds like your saying a bigger piston is better as it decreases chamber volume and pilot volume(Like what I said in the above post) So the bigger the piston the smaller the chamber 'expands' and the less pressure it loses. If the piston only needs to move back 1" but it has room to move 3" make the piston 2" longer or make a bumber 2" big. That increases the pistons mass but decreases the pilot volume so its quicker openeing and also it doesnt need to travel as far. But then its better making a 2" bumper as it doesnt add weight but it decreases pilot volume and the length the piston needs to open.
