PVC cement??

This is my first post.....whoop dee doo.Anyway im about to build my first pneumatic and i want to know something,can i use PVC cement instead of a primer and glue combination?

Or is this "glue" some people talk about actually PVC cement?if you could give me some feedbck that would be great

primer and pvc cement (or glue) will make a amazing seal primer makes the pvc softer ant the 2 peices form together

ok you use primer on both pieces of pipe you wish to cement wait like 20 seconds before adding glue onto the pipe, you insert into the fitting, hold for 30 seconds. Then wait 24 hours. repeat for all you wish to prime and cement.

you dont have to wait 24 hours for the glue to dry u can still glue the rest of your gun just DONT put any pressure into it because it dries in about 10 minutes but isnt cured until 24 hours..

i agree that you SHOULD wait 24 hours before pressurizing, but the can of pvc cement that it have says to wait 2 hours to cure for a pressure rating of 180psi.

odd mine syas wait 24 hours before 200 must be different brans. Are you austrailien or from the u.k. if so that might be why.

nope im from ohio. I thought only 2 hours for 180 was strange as well.

Have you taken the solvent welding course?
You should apply glue while the primer is still wet.

If you're making a combustion, you should wait 24 hours so your glue fumes can settle. If your glue catches on fire, then you'd better have something, like a flyswatter, handy to put it out. (Don't ask...)
And yes, apply the glue while the primer is still wet, you do need to use both. It dries pretty fast, so you should have the glue handy.

1.Clean the parts of dirt and things.
2.Prime both the fitting and the pipe.
3.Glue the pipe and fitting, before the primer dries.
4.Put together turn a 1/4 of the way to spread the glue evenly
5.Hold for around 30secs.
6. wait for drying and curing.

Ok, sorry to bump up an old topic, but I think I have a legitimate question.
I have this can of pvc glue, which, on the instructions on the side, says nothing about using primer first. It just says to use on a clean, dry piece of pvc, wait 24 hours, and it will be good for 150psi.
Should I just buy primer anyway?(I currently dont have any)
Also, would softening the pvc with heat rather than chemicaly have the same effect?
