Why Schrader valves?

Maybe I'm just being a incompetent fool, but why do you have to use schrader valves for pnuematics... why not just us the normal type.. they are cheaper... are they not as strong as the schrader's?...forgive me if im missing something obvious

what normal type? the type on the road bikes? if thats what ur talkin about then its cuz of the ease of fillin? plus if u have a compressor its just easier to use a quik connect

I use quik connect, allows more flow and easier to fill. Im lost on the "normal" type as well. Maybe you are talking about a schraeder valve and dont know that it is called a schraeder valve

there are only 3 known ways to hook up a safe (no dry ice etc) air source
shrader when u want something really portable
quick-disconnects when u lug around a compressor
on-board when you have no disconnections at all

ppl like shrader becuz it also works with a big compressor

btw quick disconnects are not cheap.

under $10, + shipping, it can be found cheaper at lowes or home cheapo im sure.
much faster to fill with a quick disconnect than a schrader valve, but schrader valves make it more portable and easier to use since everyones got a damn mini car compressor

In holland we have two main types of bike tire valves.One is the schrader type car-tire valve, the other is referred to as a "normal" bike valve.It uses a tiny rubber hose around a pierced tube.Hard to explain even in dutch....

ok wow sorry guys... i was confusing schraeder with anothe kind of valve that is actually called presta... the normal one i was reffering to was schrader

presta valves arent widley used. the only main use of them is . bicycles wiht narrows rimmed tires becausde i schraeder is too big. these bikes usually include road bikes and some bmx bikes with narrows rims.

there also used on some mountain bukes beacuse they barely leak at all whearas, overtime, schraeder valves leak

Presta valves are the long skinny type used on road bikes. You will NEVER find them in home depot. They are not sold as just a valve either. They are formed into the bike tube. I got a couple old ones for free at a bike shop and just cut the tube off. Presta's are difficult to use since the pump often presses down the button and releases all the air. I used one on a micro coax. cannon because you can fill it through the Presta and the button sticking out makes a cool little trigger to exhaust the air.

If you don't need them for that purpose, Schraders are the way to go.

Sounds like a Dunlop/Woods valve to me.
