Yes, lead was what gave me the 1/2 caliber CG/CP differential... I agree though, carriage bolts would look nice and work well too. I am planning on some steel penetrator rounds for damage videos.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:I still think an ordinary bolt would have sufficed as an insert and been a bit more durable, but in any case as per e-mail this is a fantastic result and it's good to see it was worth all the effort you put into it

Yes!I am planning on some steel penetrator rounds for damage videos.
What would be very interesting would be to make a round of UHMW with a mounting hole that can except either the lead nose or a steel nose.
Then you could sell not only the plastic portion, but also an assortment of metal tips.
so many muchness
These have a 3/8" hole from nose to tail so you can add your choice of toppings.Gaderelguitarist wrote:Yes!I am planning on some steel penetrator rounds for damage videos.

I noticed when I was looking over the pictures that the lead parts don't screw in, have any of them fallen out?
Or are they a tight enough fit?
That's what she said!
Edit: Have you tested these rounds in a pneumatic?

The lead caps have a coaxial bulge on the stem. We use a rubber hammer and tap them in. They fall out on impact sometimes, if they're not all bent up you can tap them back in and re-shoot.MountainousDew wrote:I noticed when I was looking over the pictures that the lead parts don't screw in, have any of them fallen out?

You have to show the "weeble-wobble hula dance" video.
This shoud give people an idea of its center of gravity.

Do you think you could make a round for a 2 1/2 SDR sch 21 barrel?
It will be a while before I finish the gun, since I still in the design phase, but it will have a Soda can barrel... I drink a lot of Mountain Dew so why not recycle the cans by shooting them, right? I get to have fun and save the planet, sorta.
I measured the can and it came out to be a little over 65mm and Wikipedia agreed. I don't know the exact diameter since I was just using 2x4s and a plastic ruler, so it might have a larger diameter than the 2.5 inch stock you have...

MD, I'm pretty sure the stock will be oversize. It may be close to 65mm. I checked a soda can here and it is 66mm. SDR 21 in 2-1/2 is supposed to be 2.655" nominal, approx 67.44mm. I'll go over the dimensions with Mike. I know the sched 40 2-1/2" rounds are on the agenda.MountainousDew wrote:Do you think you could make a round for a 2 1/2 SDR sch 21 barrel?

EDIT: Hold on, I found the material. It measures approx 65.6mm as it is not perfectly round

I think your ID of 2.655 is the max ID for SDR26 not SDR21 at a 2-1/2 OD.USGF wrote:MD, I'm pretty sure the stock will be oversize. It may be close to 65mm. I checked a soda can here and it is 66mm. I get 2.581 nominal ID for SDR21. Min Max range of 2.554 to 2.608 worst case.
USGF Did you try the pipe ID speadsheet?
