Alright, well I'm going to do it up with some more JB right now. Just gonna sand down the existing stuff then put more over it. That should hold fine.

edit, ok the new JB is curing, I covered all the old stuff with new stuff and new testing will be done tomorrow afternoon.

i just smeared epoxy over the the threads and screwed it into the FE. Let it cure for a day and a half, it held 350psi for 5 hr.

coat the inside with paint to stop it from rusting, myn did.

I was going to do the paint... but I didn't... oh well. I still can. I'll just unscrew the schrader then pour some paint in. What kind do you recomend using? Also what threads did you use to go in the FE?

i used paint called ''kill rust'', i used a 1/2inch bsp nipple

Oh, 1/2" was too small and a 3/4" nipple would barely go in, so I had to use the one that was on the nozzle and tap threads in it for the 1/4" close nipple in the tee. I'll se what paint I have. How much should I pour in?

On painting the inside of a tank, you should use enough paint to coat the entire inside and then pour the excess out.

For paint to dry, it needs fresh air. Paint in a sealed tank won't dry. A small aquarium pump and hose to flow air through the tank for a couple of days should dry the paint. Dry the tank with the tank upside down so any excess paint can drip out. If excess paint collected in the tank, the puddle will skim over leaving a puddle of wet paint in the tank after the rest of the paint has dried.

So I'll unscrew the schrader and pour the paint in there. Will a 1/4" hole be enough to let in air? Or should I use a pump?

Use a pump. There is little air exchange through a small hole so it would take forever to dry. Even purging a propane tank with a 1 inch hole requires using a pump. Here is a photo of a propane tank being purged with air prior to using an electric drill on it. I let it purge for most of a day before drilling. A vapor of only 4.2% is very explosive. Use the same procedure to dry paint. Vent until it no longer smells like wet paint.

That depends a lot on your location, the tank, and what you consider end of life. High humidity, coastal salt, and such will shorten the life much more than living in Death Valley. Depending on the pressure used, do you quit using it when rust flakes plug the valve or do you wait until it leaks or blow up? Be safe. Unpainted in dry areas, probably at least 8 years. In wet, salty or other high rust areas, probably only a season or two.
