Ips weld makes a cleaner for pvc pipe, I believe it even takes off puprle primer. But if your worried about the stains from the purple use the clear, they are the same product.

In this thread we had a discussion about cleaner being as good as primer.

I have primed and glued, cleaned and glued, and just glued three different...

Try the experiment on larger diameter pipe.
Heating it weakens the pipe by a determined factor, but how far the joints are weakened, is questionable.
