Sprinkler Valve 3/4 Orbit

My valve want seal the air comes out the barrel. I hooked direct air supply to the back of valve. It still leaks. I modified it as directed on the site. I washed and greased it it still don't work. I have bought three of them all that way. Whats wrong. Will a ball valve help. Thanks Chuck

Are you using a piston as your firing valve or a sprinkler valve? Did you use plumbers tape / teflon tape when you put it together? More information would allow us to help you better.

There could be a couple of different things wrong.

First is it on in the right direction? If you put the valve on backwards it won't work.

Second, the valve can only handle building pressure at a certain speed. I have often caused my 3/4 Orbits to open prematurely while pumping with my bike pump. The sudden burst of pressure just pops the valve. Make sure you don't fill the chamber too fast especially if you are using a direct fill.

Finally, dealing with modding, did you put the spring that was inside the top chamber of the valve back in? It needs to be in there for proper use. Did you fully fill in the solenoid port? If you did not completely fill in at least on of the holes in that port, the valve will not hold pressure.

If it is not one of these common problems, you will need to give us some more info or pics of the valve.

Ok Guys I did just what the tutorial said do. I then took the silinode out and put epoxy in then put a penny over the hole. do I need to fill in the hole that the small shaft goes into I didn't. Is that the problem. I can't explain it any more I did what it said do. On the next one I just left the silonoid in and put the 1/4'' center hole in and it want hold air either. I havenent sealed the silonoid holes in this one. The way I tested it was I hooked the air hose directly up and started filling it with the compressor. At one time I placed my hand on the exit hole that would be the barrel end. I cupped my hand and slapped the hole several times and it started to work. The next time I couldn't get it to do that. I then opened up the third valve and it works but I haven't put the center hole in it yet and unsure if I will. I'm running out of Valves. and at $12.00 a shot that gets expensive. Sorry for the long explination but didn't know how to say all this. Thanks Chuck

It sort of sounds like the pilot sytem is leaking.

Assuming that you are not blowing the valve with the direct feed off the air compressor (see above), my guess is that the blowgun or air hose that is attached to the fitting, or the fitting itself is not sealing, thus the valve is in a constant state of firing.

I think this because with the second valve you left the solenoid in so that is not leaking, hopefully, or you have bigger problems

When you slapped the outboard line of the gun, did you force air back into the valve or did you just plug it up? Forcing air back into the valve couldn't have done much. Plugging the valve however could have allowed the valve to equalize and operate properly. If this is the case you are filling the air chamber too quickly and the vlave can't keep up.

One thing to try is:
on the diaphram there is a little white plastic doohickie that allows air to flow from the lower chamber to the upper chamber. This hole might need enlarged. The easiest way is to use a pin or needle and just wiggle it around to enlargen the hole. Not much is usally needed, but this could help with fast filling guns.

Make sure you have a equalization hole on the diaphram. On mine there was a small white plastic piece and I cut it off, leaving a small hole 1.5mm. If yours doesn't have that piece, the just make the hole.

Yep i remeber when i had these same problems with the exact same type of sprinkler and same size Yes make sure you do what octane says, it will allow for your valve to reach a higer psi and wont make a honking noise. It does equilize which is why if you do that it wont open prematurely. Dont screw in your blowgun too much or it will leak, post some pics and it will help alot.
