Will hot glue completely seal up a sprinkler valve or will I need to use epoxy and such?

Well theres two sides to everything. Inside epoxy. Outside hot glue. Just to be safe.

Definitely use epoxy, hot glue doesn't seal very well and doesn't hold pressure.

Hot glue is not suitable for anything that carries a load or pressure. Hot glue is for kids glueing together pieces of paper, not for assembling anything that will carry a significant load.

Thar be the truth, hot glue is good for temporary repairs, aesthetic work, and burning yourself.
