3/4 Sprinkler Valve Solenoid with remote start HELP NEEDED!

I've been wanting to do this for some time now and Ive seen a post with a remote control car' transmitter and receiver but I want something a little bit smaller... so I was thinking about using these:

12vdc 6amp... I could also purchase a 15amp version as well if needed.

My question is has anyone done this exact thing? The solenoid on the 3/4 sprinkler valve is 24v and im curious on how to set this up, or if it would even work....

Step by step help would be appreciated.

That thing looks pretty cool.

The battery may die quickly since it's small and can source all that current, but it doesn't take that long to actuate a sprinkler valve anyhow.

Best way to test to see if it will work is to just hook it up directly to a car battery and see if it actuates properly. If you have a multimeter handy you can measure the current consumed during the process too (only do this for a couple of seconds).

so you think the 12v for that remote start will be strong enough to actuate the 24v solenoid without any additional help?

I don't know, that's why I said test it with a battery and find out

I got one to work very well with 12V once, but it may be a different model.

Oh, that's exactly the one I had, except I had a 1".

It will work fine with 12V.


Now as for wiring it up, it should come with a diagram or something, so I wouldn't worry about it.

i have a 1 inch like that and it works with one 9 volt batery, so 12v should work fine.

i've done basically the same thing you are talking about <a href="http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... ted_Gun">i put it in the wiki</a> of course i went with the ghetto approach and used an r/c car

i used a 9.6v rechargeable Ni-Cd battery to activate the valve itself so yea 12v will be fine as long as the battery can source the amps needed .for example if a standard alkaline 9v battery were to be used the valve would not work (i have tried)
