This is my next project:

I am flying out to San Francisco in 9 hours to go pick up a late model bus and drive it back home. The flight is 2 hours, the drive is 10, according to google maps. Here are some pics of the bus: http://web.mac.com/greghawaii/iWeb/Site ... tures.html

I just got a new camera: Canon PowerShot S5 IS and I will be doing a photo documentary of the trip/project. I will update this thread when I can upload the pics- I plan to do it as I go along. I should be leaving SanFran around noon, PST.

As far as condition, that bus looks to be on the top! Not my thing, those volks buses, but good find! Hope you have fun with that.

Is the van supposed to resemble the Mystery Machine?

Taxi will be here in 15 minutes to take me to airport... I'd better get crackin'.
Why the taxi? It is the fastest, cheapest way to get there and the parking fees are outrageous.

Looks nice for a restored van of this year. I'm guessing early 70's? 71 to 74 maby. Did you buy this for fun? Mid summer of 1982 I helped restore one of these, it was a fun project, turned out nice. Nice find! 8)

Sorry for the delay...

With all the extra sightseeing, the roundabout way I drove home and stopping to sleep/charge batteries, the trip took a full day (24 hours).

No pics of the Golden Gate or a close shot of Alcatraz, they were all fogged in, despite near-record temps.

It was a sweet drive though- I'd say one memorable highlight was sneaking over the barbed-wire fence at a Nevada rest area so that I could recharge my laptop and cell phone... and sleep on the ground right next to them; it was a warm, quiet night.

EDIT: Yes, it is a '73 transporter and it runs great... well, as great as an older VW can in mountains and deserts in the 100+ temps.
