So here is an idea for what I want to use as the chamber for my hybrid. Its an expansion chamber from a natural gas copressor. The compressor's operating pressure is 850psi, but I'll be hydro testing it to 1500psi to see what it'll hold. It make such a beautiful chamber, I hope I can end up using this.

Also, I have free run of the stainless fittings, valves, etc from the compressor as well as the tanks, stainless braided lines, vavles, hydraulics, etc from a chemical fire fighting unit. I just about crapped my pants when my supervisor said I had free run of anything thats been sitting on our lot.

Whatchyall think?

Picture time.

That smaller vessel next to your hand looks like it could have some promise. The larger spherical vessels seems to me to be too large to be practical for hybriding.

They still may be worth appropriating if they are available to you... Never know what might come up.

I think they are close to 1 cubic m - they would be an ideal air reservoir for compressor

what about those propane/oxygene/whatever tanks (1 pic)? Can you use them as well ?
Children are the future

unless we stop them now

The smaller vessel is what I was planning on using as my chamber. The spherical tanks hold the chemicals for the firefighting apparatus and, like you said, would be impractical.

Those are CO2 tanks under the spherical tanks.

These are all available to me for $ free.99 :D

Is that an old "Purple K" aka "PKP" aka "potassium bicarbonate" firefighting unit (sure looks like one of the dual agent jobs... foam on one side, PKP on the other)?

If so... Are the tanks empty?

If it is but the tanks are not empty... You do NOT want to be breathing that stuff, capiche?

Yes they are. And I believe that the other tank is labeled ATFF, (which I think contains hog lard, don't quote me though) is that right?

And thanks for the concern, I've been warned before about the dangers of the contents of the tanks. The parts I plan on scavenging are not in contact with PKP, they are the components of the CO2 system.

EDIT: and yes the tanks ae empty. I do have a question though. Why does the PKP tank have to be rotated for operation?

Probably because it's a dry chemical extinguishing compound. It won't stay in suspension, so it has to be agitated to feed out well.
Stupid quote of the now:
joestue "The chamber is rated to 100 psi, it don't say that on the side, but the 2 inch stuff is rated to 300, so by analogy..."
"only the last two feet hear the end is black cellular core"
"I'm taking it to 300 psi"

No. Just no.

I will walk out if anyone makes a cannon shaped like a giant cock, mostly because I wouldn't want to deal with the puns about "shooting off" into things.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I'll see if I can whip up a small one for ya Rag.

Whoah, that sounded wrong...

Heres the haul I made today, many more parts come including 2 air rams and assorted fittings.

Also, a picture of the vavle I'm considering making a simple pneumatic with. (not really)

Hey! I also might have been thinking a Hooter's restaurant theme cannon :P
Not sure what it would shoot though(?)
Perhaps a giant top would shoot off, like most people want to happen at Hooters :P 8)
