In a vortex block is it better to use a full circle or a half, and what are the advantages of each?

Half hole doesnt require a "skirt" and has a faster rof
That is all.

What do you mean skirt, I'm new at bbmg's. A shroud? Still unclear as to what that is though.

It covers half the hole and stops bbs from flooding and jamming the hole, burnt latke refers to it as a skirt, check www.burntlatke for step by step instructions
That is all.

Oh you mean that covers the input from the blowgun? Why sin't that needed in full holes?

Ohh ok never mind I see now.

I've actually made a vortex(if it can even be called that) out of a quarter-block. No skirt needed, works like a charm. Actually, on further thought, I don't think it's even a vortex. But it is possible to do a quarter-block as well.

That is all.

Uhhhhh it's not a cloud? It's a quarter vortex block. Nothing cloud-ish about it.

Wouldn't a 1/4 hole be feeding the same way that a cloud would? (with bb's almost randomly bouncing around until one got sucked into the barrel) What makes it un-cloud-like?

A vortex is not a vortex until its a full circle.

Any other way is a cloud with some smooth guidance.

So this design isn't a vortex? Then what would one call it?

Yes, its not a vortex unless it has a circular feeding area.. the air goes into the circular feeding area and spins the bbs around and around and out the barrel...

we can consider this more of a "push" type system in which the BBs are more pushed out the barrel by the air stream.

Most of the time in a vortex system the BBs do not feed into the barrel on the first time around.. thats why its crucial for performance and efficiency to have a full circle design.

With a cloud based system.. its more of a "pull" based system in which the air gets filled into a chamber and leaks out the barrel.. as the air is leaking it pulls the BBs out the barrel.

In reality both have some "pull" characteristics, but vortex in my studies have been more of a "push" type system than a "pull".

When you cut part of that circle off, all you are doing is making it harder for the bbs that miss the first time to get cycled back around and get fed. This drastically decreases efficiency and performance.

Its called a vortex because a vortex is a whirling or circular motion, when you cut off some of that circle, you no longer have a complete circle..

Here is a good animation:

hope that answers any questions, concerns or misconceptions.

So does than mean a half hole vortex doesnt have as high of rof as a full hole, noname made half hole vortexs with extremley high rof
That is all.
