Nerf Gun From Hell

G'day guys,

Last week I went over to my mates place. His little brother is obsessed with the plastic nerf guns and has a sh!t load of them. That afternoon, the 3 of us had a nerf war with the little bro's many guns. After firering all of them, I was very, very dissappointed.

I'm making my bb gun at the momment and because it's all made from screw-in parts, I thought why not make a Nerf Dart attatchment.

At 300psi, I certainly hope this won't be aimed at anyone

The plan should be very straight forward to the pro's but to the noobie's, Give us a buzz if ya want some explanations.

There's a certain fascination with turning relatively harmless projectiles like Nery and airsoft into potentially dangerous missiles seeing innocuous 0.12g BBs screaming through stuff at over 1,000 fps always puts a smile on my face

Amen to that. I mean the nerf guns are just terrible. They are that weak, that they don't even stick to the walls when fired most of the time. Except knowing me, I reckon now the darts will go THROUGH the wall now hahaha.

in my coaxial, i had a 1/2'' barrel and if you took the pressure over 50psi you would shred the darts when you fired them. i don't think 300psi is possible.

Thats why I'm using a very small chamber. So It's only a short burst of air that pushes them. Like a conventional Nerf Gun.

Looks like it should be a...er.. blast! (pun intended!)
The small exit port compared to the barrel size will also reduce flow, which is good for its use

I have built two nerf guns, and homedepotpro is right, the darts tend to shred in tight barrels. That is why I reccomend a barrel with some clearance around the dart, such as the space between 1/2" sch 40 and a nerf dart tag dart. With my black iron QEV, GGDT calculated that the darts were traveling at 700 fps!

i have had many drat tips fly off using a similar setup to yours and they become very very inaccurate at high velocity's. i have a fully auto Nerf gun (came that way) that would normally be at ~30 psi but with some slight modifications i made it capable of accepting quick disconnect now its running at about 100 and is used to shot "super poppers" (small spherical projectiles which explode with a flash when thrown at something hard, 15 fro a dollar!:P ) it makes the coolest effect.

if you want a great barrel setup use a little 1/2"cpvc at the breech of a 1/2"pvc barrel

1/2"cpvc creates a tight seal on the foam part perfect for pnematics
nerf darts are only thing my pocket 1/2"cpvc pneumatic can shoot with power
also the 1/2"pvc has a good seal for the rubber tip and slevees right over pvc

you would be much better off using a larger chamber at a lower psi. my little brothers modded titan(courtesy of my shop) will draw blood from less than 100 feet. i have several spots on my body that look like someone cut a round hole the size of a nickel in my chest.
