Has anyone tried to make a sabot used for a paintball? I have been thinking of my latest gun and I am trying to increase the flow which requires a bigger barrel and since I want to fire paint balls, I will need a sabot. However the trick here is since the paintball is inherently a sphere, how does one go about making a sabot that will hold it steady and then not affect its path after the barrel?

I have these "airsoft" 13mm pellets and my barrel is 15mm.

A crude way to make a sabot is take the paintball, and a piece of toilet paper, put the paint ball in the middle of the square toilet paper, and pinch together the four corners into one and twist about half way.
Put the four corners FIRST into the barrel (assuming it's breech loading) and the paintball at the tail end.

When it leaves the barrel while firing, the t paper catches the air around it and unravels it self making the air catch it even more, while the paintball keeps going the toilet paper slows down. And seperates from the paintball.
I can't really test the accuracy because mine is a ball valve gun.

Paper cups and wadding... Always worked for spherical projectiles for me.

Find a paper cup with a base smaller than your barrel. Put the cup in the tip of the barrel and cut it off where the cup becomes too big to fit. Put some wadding (paper towels, a rag, newspaper, whatever) in the bottom of the cup, followed by your paintballs. Insert in barrel (breech loading is a huge help here). Don't fire at humans.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

The key here is somewhat accuracy. I am trying to maintain a single shot, accurate gun, with the advantages of a larger bore.

get some polystyrene(spelling?) pot it out into your barrel, and carve out a hole the size of a paintball then get another piece and do the same.

Care to explain that in more detail or English?

Unfortunately accuracy and sabots are an unlikely combination unless the sabot is machined to precise standards - if you want better performance while maintaining reasonable accuracy, increase pressure and barrel length, not calibre.

If you do want to raise calibre and retain a good hit probability, use a sabot and include 5 paintballs instead of just one ;)
