I have a suggestion of using a 6mm dowel and a one inch pvc pipe to cast a barrel out of acrylic or Bondo. I would spray a 2 or 3 foot long dowel with cooking spray or use petroleum jelly and center it inside the correspondingly sized pvc pipe and seal off the bottom. Then I would fill around the dowel almost to the top and tape the top to center the dowel and let it cure. This could be used with a smaller dowel for .177 steel BB's. Is this idea plausible? Would it work better or worse than brake line(I think it would be more solid and support itself better)?

I doubt a wooden dowel would be smooth enough, strait enough, or uniform enough for this to work well... but the concept is sound. Perhaps one could try it with an aluminum rod.

I can find wooden dowels more readily than metal ones, which is why I suggested them. It might help to put a wood floor sealenat of some kind on them for a smooth finish. I'll try it out next week.

i agree with boilingleadbath, you really shouldn't do it wilth dowl because its not smooth enough, a metal or plastic rod is the best way to do it.

when you add the sealant to the dowel it will increase the diameter so you might want to sand it down a bit first. in a standard AEG airsoft gun a barrel with a diameter of 6.03 will give you about 50 more fps from a stock 6.09mm barrel, thats only .05mm and will drop preformance and accuracy a great deal. this is not a big problem with clouds and vortexs but a tighter barrel will always translate to better power/accuracy.

Sounds a bit of a useless exercise when precise commercially made tubing of the right diameter can be purchased at reasonable prices.

It also leaves the option of casting the barrel and vortex block as one piece.
