I was thinking more along the lines of 500+...
OK, I'm fine with that.

How about a 36"x1" bore barrel with a 1"x1.5"x1.5" T/piston valve with a 34"x1.5" chamber, layed out over/under , pressurized to 700psi with helium, shooting 1" chrome steel balls ( or for real high muzzle velocity 1" superballs), or I can make some of my patented 4"x.25" drill rod with cut washer fin darts....

You might do some research on the effects of low temperatures on copper's pressure ratings if you consider CO2.

Quick question...

how feasible would it be to put a regulator betwwen the main valve and the pilot qev??? Would the regulator self destruct on firing??? I know pilot speed would be choked down, but would it be enough to really hurt performance???

Also, can anyone tell me if a "parsenault<sic>" valve is something we're familiar with, just by a differant name, because I know they use them on avalaunchers....

What's all this foolishness about regulating the helium?

You could just use a flow restricting orifice to stop the gun from filling to the tank's pressure immediately after the fill line is connected to the chamber, and allow you to adjust the pressure at the same time, without spending hundreds on a regulator that can handle the output pressure you want (not cheap or easy to find at all, I've looked).

And in the worst case, it fills the chamber to 2400psi with helium. Which, in this case, couldn't really be very bad at all.

Not talking about regulating the chamber filling, I'm talking about a way to regulate 700-1000psi down to something sub500 that won't cause the qev to self destruct... get it, 1000psi chamber pressure and 500 psi qev pressure....

I'm trying to avoid having to ballvalve fire this thing

700psi is fine in a piston QEV, it has been done before and the worst that happens is the piston will rip.

If you are proposing putting a regulator between the chamber and barrel - don't bother, it will just restrict your flow no end. You'd be much better just filling at 500psi if that's the pressure you want.

I take it by parsoneault valve you mean what we know as the quick dump valve? That would have no problem handling the pressure, and if you want to use helium, it'll make the most of it too!

Regulator between the chamber and pilot valve is what I'm after...

If you can "play with" surface area, you might be able to make a reduction in pilot pressure work.

I'm not sure it would be worthwhile though. The increased surface area required to make the lower pressure work, will also increase the volume which needs to be piloted.

Is this the valve you were referring to?
