It's really a masterpiece of simplicity. I love it and likely will steal many ideas for FANG from it.

Is there any reason the air cylinder isn't on top? When I was considering a similar arrangement (not quiet the same as I didn't think the tiny Clippard QEVs were adequate) I did it that way.

Are the PVC tubes a McMaster-Carr item (for example, something like 85095K91)?

I'd also like to say yours is yet another criminally unnoticed thread at NerfHaven. I'm almost convinced that they have their idols and are sticking to them regardless of what others produce.

@twizi: I suppose I exaggerated on the price, but not by a whole lot. I wasted a of lot money building this, it could have done cheaper. The QEV is made by Clippard, model #JEV-F2F2.

@btrettel: Thanks again for your compliments. I kept the cylinder on the side because I wanted the shells to feed from the bottom and eject from the opposite side, and of course to leave room on top for unnecessary iron sights and other nonsense add-ons.

Very close with the part # on the PVC tubes.

As far as Nerf Haven, yeah, I think you're right. The few that posted in my thread did seem impressed though. Only a couple had anything intelligent to say, but I'm not gonna mock them. There's a lot of young kids on there, you can't expect them to say a whole lot. I really just felt like sharing my progress with someone.

Simple as it may be, I'm disappointed that I didn't really achieve my goal. I wanted this thing to be easy to make. It wasn't horrible, but it's not something the average nerfer could just throw together with simple tools, and that's what I was trying to pull off.

Duhh man don't post such non nerf stuff on a nerf forum!

It looks very nice.. I'm still looking for a use for my QEV, so it may go into a nice nerf gun.. But I still need to find suitable darts/barrel.

The way the QEV pilots is nothing new. It's very simple. It's connected to a 3-way, normally open valve. At rest, air flows through the valve to the QEV. When you pull the trigger, the valve shuts off the incoming air supply while at the same time venting the air behind the QEV, piloting it.

I hadn't considered that you might be using any sort of sights. With that in mind the air cylinder would work best on the side.

To anyone who doesn't understand how the valve system here works look at the images below for a test gun I made about a year ago.

Image

Above is the gun without the trigger depressed. The gas chamber is filled during this stage.

Image

With the trigger pressed the QEV is piloted (which in turn fires the dart) and air flow from the gas reservoir is stopped.

It's a simple way to get semi-automatic operation from piloted valves. In PVC Arsenal's gun the air is piloted out of the holes on the side of the valve. The valve he's using is very good for this purpose as it doesn't have a bulky extra port like the one in my images here.

I made some shells out of 5/8" O.D. steel (.527" bore). They are heavier than my PETG shells and that's a drawback because it adds more to the overall weight of the gun, but I don't mind. The fact that they're steel means I can use small magnets to hold them inside the gun securely until the gun ejects them.

I had missed this one, a little complex for what I like to aim for but looking very good, kudos!
