BTB handed me a brass sprinkler-type diaphragm valve, of which he blew the diaphragm. He asked if I could "machine something" for it.
Well of course I could!

Original valve + machined block.

Block on top of it (not yet bolted down). Black stuff are two types of rubber sheet which are used as sealing face and gasket.

Disassembled parts.

Piston in its place.

The only thing that was not machined on a mill/lathe is the cone on the piston. This picture proves that I can also build awesome stuff without the use of a lathe or mill. ;)
Just a drill clamped in the vice, and some sharp or rough tools.

A few specs:
-1/2" valve
-1/4" threads to be tapped in the top.
-20mm piston made from Delrin rod.
-Piston diameter is only 0.01 to 0.02 mm smaller then housing's, near airtight without friction.

This valve will probably serve as pilot valve on BTB's "Mr Porter".

Nice work. Question, Why not do the taper with the lathe? Doesn't the head of your lathe swivel?

I could've done it on the real lathe, but that would give a straight cone, and I wanted it to be curved.

Draw something up and transfer the material and shipping cost onto my bank account. :)
No joke, I'd love to produce valves for people.

do you plan to build a HPA gun with a custom QEV or something like that?

No (not yet). I am currently planning to build a pump action hammervalve gun, and then a pen gun.

Do you guys think it needs a bumper?

Brian, I'm giving you those two sheets of rubber (both 10x10 cm), just experiment which type you will be using as gasket and possibly bumper.
I'll also give you a short leftover piece of delrin rod, the same diameter as the piston.

Thanks!
I got the tools to make the gasket.I don't think it needs a bumper.

Cunning.

I considered a side piloting valve a while ago and seeing this, the irony is, I did draw up almost exactly a sprinkler valve but gave up because it would be too awkward to make.

Never occurred at the time that I was reinventing the wheel

Me thinks you should round of the edges on the machined block :)

Good idea, I might do that on later projects.
I think a bit of mirror-shiny polishing would also look nice...

Hold those words for my next piece of machining, this one is not perfect. This was just a warming-up.
