Hello,
I'm working on my high pressure cannon, and I was wondering what shock pump to buy. The pressure chamber is 10 cubic inches in volume. I would like to be able to reach 400 PSI...
Thanks

im not sure what the best shock pump is but that would take HEAPS of pumping to get to 400psi, you could also build one

Your arms will fall off before that happens, filling anything bigger than 1-2 in3 to 400 psi with a shock pump is impractical at best. Get yourself a fridge compressor or build your own stirrup pump ;)

what about this though?

His chamber is nearly 10 cubic inches, and he uses a shock pump.

Going by the data in your link:
this gun consists of a 1' long .5" copper chamber with an 11" long 5/16" barrel
... the chamber volume works out to less than 1.5 in3

yea, the gun linked is mine and that chamber is less than 2in^3. It is relatively easy to pump to decent pressures, but If I were you I'd make sure i have a tiny chamber volume. to cut down on your own chamber size you could build a co-axial.

As far as shock pumps go, the one in the thread linked is a great pump and only cost me 20 dollars at REI. I know many members use a similar "high volume" shock pump

i vote for a fridgy. i fill my 14 cubic in chamber to up to 700psi in under 45 seconds. i used to use a styrup pump but even that was too slow for me.

Oops, sorry. I thought his chamber was .5 x 1 foot. Where I'm from, this ' means feet and this " means inches.

I guess I will change my query... What fridge pump do I want?

That does mean .5 x 12 inches, but there is another pipe inside of that

I know very little about shock pumps but I do plan to get one for an upcoming project. This one in particular caught my eye because it has a special two-step head design which prevents air from leaking out when disconnecting the pump. This is a very useful feature for guns that aren't "self contained" like the one you've linked to. That, and it can reach 400 psi. Some can only reach 300 or 350.

$28.99 at Jenson USA.

Also, 1500th post. Look out JSR.

Thanks for that link, that appears to be the same as the one I linked to. I've read about this particular pump being sold for much less under different brand names. Beto in the UK, for example, and now XLC.

Thanks guys, I ordered that shock pump from amazon... Now I gotta work on getting a fridge compressor. Where can I buy one for cheap?

EDIT: What is a stirrup pump, can't find much about them on google.
