spring loading a air chamber

for simple ball valve air guns you add a simple spring loaded piston.When you pressurise the airgun it is forced to the back and upon firing it pushes the air forward through the ball valve .

i have heard it gives a great increase of power on ball valve guns but what would it be like on a 1/2 inch piston valve? would you get tremendous power out of doing this? ( also ammo is 3/8 slingshot ammo (54 grain) to marbles so reletivly light)

idk what your talking about maybe a drawing would help.

i know people put spring on ball vales to open them quicker but one in the chamber, never heard that before.

This is not strictly correct. The piston can only react to the drop in pressure, so it doesn't really "push the air forward" but rather keeps the pressure up as the chamber empties.

Essentially, what this does is allow you to get more air pressure from a given chamber volume. Unless you have extreme compactness requirements I wouldn't bother.

yeah wasnt too sure how to say it or rather write it , but dont need to... you have for me :)

but adding this to a piston valve would still give it a increase but im wondering how much stronger it would be , wish i had a chrony

Try modelling it in GGDT but with a much larger chamber, it should give the same effect.

Bear in mind the spring and piston isn't some kind of zero-volume object.

You'll have to have a bigger chamber just to put that in there and a powerful spring able to make ANY significant difference will need quite a bit of room even when compressed.

I disagree that it would be more compact.

Fair points, I agree the idea is wholly impractical compared having a stronger chamber and higher pressure.
