I'm just getting into pneumatic cannons and discovered a small design that uses 16gram Co2 cartridges (kipkay's design i discovered while browsing). How well would that scale up from a nerf to say a tennis ball? (I understand there will be power loss but how much)?
And at the same time I am looking to design a BBMG or pneumatic cannon that uses paintball tanks (air compressors aren't exactly all that portable). With a google search I am inundated with parts that i'm not sure will or will not work. Any help or design suggestions would be appreciated

read the stickies, search the forums, and look at some other sites to get EVEN MORE info!! WELCOME!! Just so you know, we don't "spoon feed" answers to people, but since you're new, here are a few that sound perfect for you:

As to the power loss.. I'm not sure what you're talking about.. I don't watch Kipkay much.. The video that you were talking about would help.

ah i get the whole spoon feeding of answers, must get repetitive. TBH i only saw that video, most of the stuff is junk, and i'm just curious if anyone else has any experience with them as a power source (i've seen small scale things around here, but nothing of large size).
I actually am familiar with neospud, thats where i first saw the design of the inline vortex, and am using ideas from that for the current BBMG in the works

Kipkay is complete garbage, don't listen to ANYTHING he says about air guns.

i took that as a general rule, but the idea seemed plausible, because he took it from somewhere else

Same old questions (makes me wonder if we ought to have a "help request" formCpt Obvious wrote: And at the same time I am looking to design a BBMG or pneumatic cannon that uses paintball tanks (air compressors aren't exactly all that portable). - what do you want to fire and how fast, both in terms of velocity and in terms of rate of fire?
- what's your budget?
- do you have any size or noise restrictions?
- what technical abilities and facilities do you have at your disposal?
- what materials can you afford and work with?
Answer those questions and you'll get more specific help

noise restrictions? none, but size would be preferably man-portable for the whole setup (air source included). As far as facilities and ability I've worked with shop air compressors and fittings. I do have drills, saws, etc, I have equipment to do some metal work, but nothing much more complex than cutting and drilling holes. Machining metal and fiberglass are not an option, yet sometime in the future I might have access to a 3D printer.
For these first projects I would prefer to keep it under a hundred dollars, and there's more PVC and ABS than I know what to do with.

paintball tank -> regulator -> valve -> BB chamber -> barrel, there really isn't that much to it
