I did not realize your side and bottom panels were attached on the interior side of the structure - you should be OK in that fashion! you may still be best off sandwhiching the polycarbonate in between two pieces of metal (the frame and the strip) to distribute the load and avoid stress risers, but it is pretty thick.
I think your design is pretty good provided you keep the kinetic energy low enough
