has anyone tried barrel porting

Boom! The classic potato gun harnesses the combustion of flammable vapor.

Muzzle brakes.

Yep, the main purpose would be for aesthetics but in higher performance cannons it will reduce projectile climb, tumble and recoil if built correctly. Barrel crowning is also a good addition.

A series of holes won't wreck a potato, but more aggressive porting definitely can. I had a muzzle brake for my newest cannon, though you were lucky if half the qev even got out of the barrel it was so aggressive.

(400 psi didn't help either)

Just post a picture and it will be easy for us to tell you. A series of holes in the barrel wouldn't matter much.

Rag is the muzzle break king. He put me on to the idea and I use them all the time. I have noticed an increase in accuracy but I am not sure about anything else.
This is the first launcher I used it on.

Used them on our t shirt launcher. Reduced end for end tumble which improved range and accuracy. Did not hurt the apples and oranges we launched from the larger barrels. (spuds too small for the 3 inch.) A little sanding to soften the edge of the holes helps.
