Micro Shock pump

Hey, ive been collecting mterials to make my own shock pump. Has anyone else made there own handheld shock pump. I saw sticky tapes but it wasnt very helpful. The body im planning on using is 10 inches of 3/8 copper tubing and the shaft is going to be a 5 or 6mm brass rod. What should i use as a check valve and piston?

I don't see why you couldn't just use a schrader valve as the check. The piston should be epoxy cast from a small section of the copper tubing with a couple o rings chucked in there.

True i was thinking about that but i dont know if a schrader will fit in 3/8 pipe but i guess i might as well find out.

when u say "epoxy" what sort of epoxy should ya use, "araldite"??
"5 minute epoxy"?? doesnt it get all smashed up after awile??

He's asking what kind of epoxy to cast it with. I use loctite heavy duty 2 part epoxy.

I'm not sure if a schrader valve will fit in 3/8's but a small bulge won't matter much would it?

This is it. The materials used were a fraction different though. I just used what I had around. It's 1/2'' aluminum tubing along with compression fittings, brass fittings, 6mm steel rod and aluminum desk knob.

The check valve is exactly the same as I used on the big pump. A schrader valve fixed in place at the bottom of the tubing using a nail and the compression olive providing the final seal. For the piston I cheated, I used the one off my old shock pump but they are very easy to make. Just use a couple of nuts filled down smooth and stick them on the end of the shaft with an o ring and a bit of locktite.

Thanks a lot Sandman. You could still use the pipe you bought too. You might just be able to squeeze a shrader valve into the 3/8 tubing. I'll have to see if a Presta ?.. valve would do the same trick but in smaller diameter applications.

Hm does it fit sandman???? I'm pretty sure it wont.... but yes def. nice idea mitchza I'll get materials tommrow... Is your rod just a threaded rod completely, would this be better than the oring and locktite ?? or would just threading the nut in a threaded rod seal better ?

Also... maybe you could post a parts list? .. sounds like I want a spoon but at my hawdware store you have to know what you want... they give you the stuff in the counter so you actually have to get there with alist of what you want.. its not like you go and buitl your gun up like with legos

As far as the threaded rod goes, it was all I could find. I would have much preferred a solid steel rod and cut the thread for the piston head myself with a tap and die set.

For the parts list, that all depends on the lay out of the pump. As in, if you want a gauge, a hose, the type of connection to your gun etc.
