my buddies and i have been shooting the liquid from inside glow sticks for a long time. it looks awesome at night to see a glowing potato go downrange. recently though two of my friends had their barrels break off. they seem to think that something in the glow stick stuff could have weakened or damaged the pvc. does anybody know if there something in glow sticks that could be bad for pvc?

I don't think so, since the glow sticks themselves are made of a plastic not too dissimilar from PVC.
However, why don't you find out and let us know? Take a scrap piece of pipe, put an end cap on it, pour in a glow stick, and wait a day. See if it softens it at all. Let us know the results :)

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

i tried that a while ago. i let the pipe marinade for about a day. the only thing i saw was the lettering rubbed off when i wiped it. it may have made it more brittle or something. i haven't had any problems with my gun though.

it sounds like he cut them open, and put the liquid on potatoes to make them glow. i hope your gun doesnt suffer any damage from this liquid! :D

hmmm, I may have to try this, since I doubt it would affect aluminum.

good idea!

if the lettering wiped off, it obviously did something to it, right?

it might be somewhat like the PVC primer, that wipes the lettering off too.

The stuff inside the glass vial inside glowsticks is concentrated hydrogen peroxide (~35%)

The flourescent dye is any number of some godawfully long named chemicals.

PVC isn't meant to do much with hydrogen peroxide.

hmm a little of topic but it would be cool to fill a ping pong ball or a little ball made with tin foil with glow stick stuff n shoot that at a wall.

Wow that site has got some great stuff. They've got ultra high intensity glow sticks that I'm sure would look great at night.
