Judgment Arms M1A1 M.A.W. 2 inch Shoulder Cannon, a First and a Last:
First things first, the technical data:
Caliber: 2inch, 50mm (2”X10”R M2 cannon cartridge)
Barrel length: 26 inches, 660mm, 13calibers
Reservoir: 2”X17” 53.4in3, 50X431.8mm
Muzzle velocity at 100psi: 220fps, 67m/s*
Muzzle energy at 100psi: 141ft*lb, 191.3J*
*according to the GGDT
Valve: unmodified “Frankenstein**” 1” sprinkler valve
Now let me explain what I mean by “a first and a last”:
Firsts:
1. “successful” use of cartridges.
2. “man portable” air cannon.
3. modular cannon (explained latter)
Lasts:
1. attempt at a man portable air canon that uses low pressure high volume (LPHV)
2. using a 1” sprinkler valve as a main valve
This cannon was designed to be a man portable grenade launcher, but this sucker is HEAVY. At 12lb this thing is definitely not a L.A.W. (Light anti-armor weapon), meaning the designation of MAW, or Multipurpose Assault Weapon, is more like Massive Assault Weapon.
The good news is that it works exactly as it should, besides being heavy, it’s about what I was gunning for.
Note the designation “M1A1” for those of you that don’t know, the A1 designation means this ain’t the original, its bean modified, a lot…
The original didn’t have a stock just pipe and no breach plug, the thinking was that the cartridge would throw itself out and still have enough power to put paint and NERFs down range at 230fps, obviously it didn’t work.
A1 version adds a plywood receiver, a pine wood stock and pistol grip (modeled from a Colt SAA grip frame), and a breach plate
On the muzzle there’s a 2” female threaded adapter, to which will attach some planed accessories, including: a bipod, 20” barrel extension turning it into a mortar, a choke for shot, and a 3”X12” barrel extension for larger projectiles.
*the valve is made from a conglomeration of 3 or 4 different valves because none of them worked as a whole; they all sounded like angry wookies.
Range Data will be added as I get some, questions, comment, criticism are welcome.
Here’s some photographs of the cannon and the GGDT data on it:

the air comes in through the slits in the side of the cartridge and pushes the projectile out the front, see pic.jon_89 wrote:Looks pretty good. Can you explain the cartridges more?
if you need a more technical drawing give me a while and i'll dig up some of my high quality images.

nice and clean looks a little like some thing from halo. looks like theres some dead space from where the sprinkler valve is. also what is that coupler on the end for. Again go into a little more detail of how the cartridges work maybe a schematic, its probably really simple but i dunno.
edit, okay i understand do the cartridges seal well it looks like you might lose some air.

For those of you that still don’t understand the cartridge the first picture in the first post shows how it works.Gas Assisted Recoil Prototype
As for the dead volume, well it’s actually a good thing, according to the GGDT if I cut down the dead volume it it’ll cut back the muzzle velocity, go figure…
As for the resemblance to something in HALO, ain’t never played the game so they must have stolen the design from me:)
EDIT: Oh sorry, the coupler on the end of the muzzle, right:

You really out did yourself this time,Judgement.
Specifically the use of cartridges that let air in from the sides, very few would ever implement that system. Most consider it too hard to manufacture.Congrats man. When are you planning on a constant air hookup.Everybody needs a gun that sounds like angry wookies!
Any chance of a debut on a paintball field near me(SC/NC)?

Chances of seeing this at field are slim, it’s to dang heavy. That and I’ve already got a much more compact high pressure low volume cannon on the drawing board, and it’s a three incher.
If by “constant air hookup” you mean a Co2 setup, the Palmer Stabilizer’s on it way.
As for the cartridges I have to thank good ‘ol Jack(smerkingrevenge) for a push In the right direction.
:):) <sorry it's almost new years, going to start it with a smile!, and a few round o' .22 ratshot.
