Stainless steel Hydrogen cannon

Miniature guns are novelty custom, unique, and sometime downright crude! Common construction materials often include pill bottles or pens. Show us your work!

Ok, so here's my stainless steel mini combustion. :)

Some specs:
Chamber volume: 40 cc/cm3
Chamber length: 1,5"
Chamber dia.:1,4"
Barrel volume: 3cc/cm3
Barrel length: 9"
Caliber: 0.08"
Ch/Brr ratio : 13
As you see there are 2 s.s tubes going in the chamber. The first is the hydrogen/oxygen mix inlet and is flattened on the inside so it only allows very little gas flow. That way the chamber is filled slowly and when combustion happens very little gas is returned back. The second tube is where the sparker goes in(sorry not in the pics). The fuel is pure oxygen/hydrogen from an electrolyser(can take a pic of it if onyone's interested). I haven't yet had time to test the gun thoroughly, but it's quite powerful. As you see in the pics the barrel is removable. I have a longer one which is 15", but it only seems to enchance the performance by little. After a week or so I'll be able to take damage pics and maybe shoot a vid if anyone's interested.

Safe and happy spudding everyone! :)

EDIT:
Oook , so here's the electrolyser:
Electrolyser Diagram
Electrolyser1
Electrolyser2
Electrolyser3

The whole thing is less than a foot high. For electrolyte i use baking soda. When i run it at 12v it puts out about 100cc/minute(haven't measured it though, just think so). There are a couple ways i connect it to the gun. The first is directly, which sometimes makes the rubber cork pop out(should fix that). The second is feeding the h2/o2 mix into a syringe and then injecting the syringe into the gun. :P

Doesn't look very airtight...

WOW!!! nice ss build there. I would most definately like to see a video.
And I believe there's a how-to on electrolyser for oxygen/hydrogen.
But more information would be great.
I'll be waiting for the video. Thanks

He already has an electrolyser..

I don't see housing for a burst disc anywhere..What kind of valve do you use?

none :) but burst disc is a good idea especially considering the c/b ratio.may add one in the future

First you say that there's no valve to cut off the fueling inlet, and no burst disk setup, and then you say it's airtight. Which is it?

Hmmm yeah... why no try some valves? If all stainless is the goal, stainless ball valves are available...

we obviously misunderstood each other, so no it's not airtight. that's easily fixable though, but i think i'll just make another one (maybe bigger)

I don't understand how you could use this at say..5x or so without it being airtight. The hydrogen and oxygen mix wouldn't pressurise, it would leak out of the barrel.

he do not pressurize it. he just takes the air out and put hydrogen and oxygen in.

NICE gun there! expect some steel hybrids from you :)

Who said a simple combustion had to be airtight?

That is one great looking cannon, I can't wait to see a video of it in action (if you decide to make one).

Its a COMBUSTION, not a hybrid.
It DOESNT need a burst disk, it DOESNT need to be airtight.

Though I think you should add ballvalves to the inlets.
A burst disk wont be needed, hydrogen burns fast.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

yep, no pressure. only 1x
the gun is all stainless steel simply because i have easy access to s.s tubes, a welding machine, and i like s.s. It's not because of the pressures involved, or anything like that
